Abobo's Big Adventure
Rated 5 / 5 stars January 14, 2012
I laughed, I cried, hell I was even bored
One of those isn't true. This game is unbelievably nostalgic. Its refreshing to see people stay true to the classics instead of doing some lame Call of Duty video or Skyrim garbage. NES was the catalyst of great games and was an amazing system. Arguably, the finest gaming system ever released. Having Abobo be the main character is genius. I'd like to point out my favorite parts.
As a youth, I bought Jaws and, at the time, I thought it was awesome. I loved the movie and would play the game all the time. Of course, some online game reviewers don't like it. But seeing Jaws in the underwater area was great. Well done.
The Zelda level was a nice touch. It had the look and feel of Zelda, but you made it your own. That's truly hard to do. Having Abobo eat the tri-force piece was great.
Now to the game play. I felt as if I had complete control. No wonder this took so long. You even had the balloon fight physics down. The collision detection was excellent. I never felt cheated by bad programming. That's a feat in itself.
The graphics were great. Really brought me back to the NES days. Reminded us all that graphics don't make a great game without saying it.
Sound. I think I speak for everyone when I say you nailed the NES music/sound effects. Perfect.
Now some things that turned this from a great flash game, to a classic. Clearly, you polished the levels, but you added in really obscure gaming jokes (kill the messenger in the Zelda level, punting DK jr, etc.). Basically, things we wanted to do, but couldn't. You covered the Nintendo canon with ease. This is a true gem.
Improvements? These are pretty out there, but I would have liked to see some reference to Mother 1 (NES Earthbound - rare), Mr. Gimmick (one of the best NES games no one knows about), and some reference to NES Championship or the NES glove or Wizard. But these are just 'fanboy' things, I don't want to take away from this game in the slightest.
Congratulations guys, you created something truly special.
You haven't beaten it yet if you're asking for references to the power glove or the "Wizard" movie :-D

Probably the most impressive game on newgrounds
I rarely write reviews, but this game deserves it. Visuals are stunning. The modeling of the landscape is just about perfect. The control is responsive and fluid. The story is a little 'out there', but adds to the feel of the world you created.
For any criticism? I suppose I would have liked some more engaging puzzles, perhaps different power ups, and a loner game would be nice. But those are broad criticisms, there is nothing material about the game I would change.
Solid work.

Pretty baller
I think you drop out the bass line too often. If you decide to keep that way Id drop a bomb before the bass line comes back. Also if you have each sound to its own track, try changing the strings sound to a piano. Overall hot beat though
